Our history

The idea of establishing the ADRIA Intercultural Association was born in the early summer of 2021. 14 founder members from Hungary and Veneto Regions responded to the call for action in order to discover, collect, preserve, maintain and promote the common cultural heritage of the people and folks around the Adriatic Sea. Historically the first gathering to sign the Statute of the Association took place in Coi, Veneto, Italy on 11th July 2021, and in Budapest – Hollókő, Hungary on 19th July 2021.

The purpose of the association is to discover, explore, learn, maintain and share the cultural heritage of the people and folks around the Adriatic Sea, such as their common and/or self history, past, economical and cultural developments, linguistic remains, traditions, gastronomies, arts and folk-arts and more during their co-living in neighbourhood around the Adriatic for more than a millennia by collecting and caring about; creating knowledge centers and libraries (archives of online and traditional books, manuscripts, other documents); establishing courses, schools for the endangered languages and cultures, strengthening modern social and cultural relationships, co-operations, community activities, performances, organising and participating in related events, networking, opening and participating in ongoing civil and professional dialogues; transferring knowledge of the common heritage to the future generation and supporting its integration into the modern society.

In order to achieve the aims of the Association, it concentrates on intercultural networking, on the one hand, at the basis of tradition and on the other, by recognizing, articulating and disseminating new civil and professional interests in South-Western Europe. To this end, the members of the Association will call for their networks and mobilisable contacts to

– organise forums to keep the links between the common past and the realisable common future,
– organise weekend-school on languages of the region in danger and seminars on cultural heritage
– create and exchange exhibitions, performances,
– various publications (bulletin, albums, bilingual text collections, digital periodicals) on cultural heritage,
– conduct joint research involving professional and civil society circles,

taking advantage of the wide range of tools in the modern digital world, and provide a regular platform in particular for youth culture in order to maintain, share and maintain their gathered knowlege with the supports of targeted grants, subsidies, donations and volunteering as resources.
